Careers At Beaumont

Our Veterinarians

Veterinarian, DVM

Dr. Ken Smith, DVM, BSc

Growing up in the rural east central Alberta community of Castor, Dr. Ken Smith has always had animals in his life. The farm dogs, cats, horses, cattle, sheep, chickens, turkeys and honeybees he cared for instilled a love and appreciation of all living things at a very early age. In 1989 he completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, then graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1993. He then joined the mixed animal practices in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and Russell, Manitoba where he enjoyed working on many species before moving to Leduc in 1996 where he has been practicing at the Leduc and Beaumont Animal Clinics ever since. Dr. Smith believes the most rewarding part of his work is the many wonderful people he has come to know through caring for their furry family members and feels very fortunate to be serving people in this capacity. Away from the office, he enjoys camping and hiking with his family, gardening, music and badminton.
Managing Partner

Dr. Zuzana Smith, DVM

Dr. Zuzana Smith grew up with several generations of German Shepherds and learned early on the value of animal companionship. She set her sights on a career in veterinary medicine and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Dr. Smith started out in a mixed animal practice straddling the Saskatchewan and Manitoba border but moved closer to home when the first of her three children were on the way. During the early years of motherhood, Dr. Smith worked part-time for the CFIA and did some locum work for various small animal practices in the Edmonton area. Dr. Smith has now stepped back from clinical practice to work as the practice manager of the Leduc and Beaumont Animal Clinics. In her spare time, Dr. Smith likes to spend time with family, to knit or read with a cat or two on her lap, to bake and to tend her flower garden.
Veterinarian

Dr. Janice Smith, DVM

Dr. Janice Smith graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and has been with Beaumont Animal Clinic for many years. She particularly enjoys dentistry, as well as preventative medicine. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her dogs and relaxing.
Veterinarian

Dr. Susanne Krägeloh, DVM

Susanne Krägeloh was born and raised in Germany. She always had a love for nature and animals, and as a teenager explored the rural area she grew up in on horseback. After graduation from high school, she pursued a career in hospitality and completed an apprenticeship to become a chef, as well as obtained certification in hotel management. After several years in this industry she chose to change her career path, and returning to her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, enrolled at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany. She came to Canada after graduating from vet school and worked in mixed animal practice in a rural area in Alberta. In 2020, because of changes to her personal life, she moved to Sherwood Park and started working at Beaumont Animal Clinic.

Her previous career left a mark on her, and she loves to look at nutrition for pets as a great tool to keep them healthy and happy. Susanne loves to be a general practitioner, with the goal of promoting general health for our pets as well as educating pet owners on ways to improve life and health for our four-legged companions in all stages of life.

Susanne and her husband Tim are raising three teenagers together, and of course, there are pets: two dogs and two cats. The dogs make sure that the family continues to enjoy outdoor activities, like exploring nature areas and getting to know the extensive net of walking trails.

Veterinarian

Dr. Josephine Wong, BSc, DVM

Dr. Jo was born and raised in Edmonton, and in her final years of her undergraduate degree at the U of A, decided to study abroad in Melbourne Australia! She enjoyed this so much that when it came time for vet school she decided to go back to the 'land down under.' After graduating from the University of Melbourne, she had the opportunity to experience living and working in a few different areas in Australia. However, as much as she enjoyed the lifestyle, friends, and wildlife there, she actually missed the great white North! So back she came to Canada in late 2018.

Shortly after this, she worked for a few years mainly with cattle but has more recently decided to hone in on her small animal skills. In Jo's spare time, she enjoys volunteering at the local wildlife rehab hospital, horseback riding, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and most things outdoors. Dr. Wong is also pursuing her AVCA/ACCC certification in practicing animal chiropractic. She loves meeting and helping the great array of friendly clients and their beloved pets.

She also completed the Professional Pet Groomer course at the Alberta School of Dog Grooming in 2017 and took a starter course in cat grooming during that time. Malinda enjoys camping, fishing, exercising on Beaumont Hill and spending time with her kiddos and fur babies. She's been helping and rescuing animals most of her life, and can't imagine a life without a cat on her pillow, or a dog by her side.

Since then, she has worked as a registered veterinary technician in small animal practice, joining the Leduc and Beaumont Animal Clinic teams in 2017. As of 2020, Anna has shortened her commute to work exclusively at the Beaumont Animal Clinic. While she couldn’t choose between working with cats or dogs at work, at home she has accepted becoming a “cat person” and is always happy to share pictures of her 8-year-old domestic shorthair cats, River Song and Boe, with anyone who asks or just happens to be walking by at the right time. With her remaining free time, Anna enjoys reading, live music and theatre shows and birdwatching.
RVT

Laura McGee

Laura is delighted to be joining the team at Beaumont Animal Clinic since returning to the profession after maternity leave. She is a graduate of the NAIT Animal Health Technology program. Her and her husband have quite a zoo at their acreage with four cats(including one who was born blind), one giant dog, one snake, 9 tarantulas, and several heritage breed ducks, all of whom are cherished, spoiled pets!
